Student Buried Amid Intense Outpouring Of Grief

The mortal remains of Samuel Asare Bediako, a final year Business student of the Prempeh College, who fell to his death, were laid to rest at the weekend amid intense outpouring of grief and pain.

Many among the large gathering that thronged his Hwereso hometown in the Ejisu-Juaben Municipality, to pay their last respect, wept bitterly as the cadet band of the all-boys senior high school (SHS) struck the tune “Lead kindly light” and the pall-bearers lifted the coffin containing his body - to carry it away to the community’s public cemetery.

His father, Mr. Kwaku Adusei, was simply inconsolable, while the mother, Hannah, collapsed and had to be revived at a nearby health centre.

The Board of Governors and Parent-Teacher Association (PTA) presented cash of GHȼ1,000 towards his funeral.

The deceased fell together with another student, Tabiri Kofi Boateng, from the second floor of one of the school’s dormitory blocks and sustained massive brain injury.

Boateng survived the accident with multiple fractures and received treatment at Accident and Emergency Centre of the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH), the nation’s second largest referral facility.

The pair, were reported to be sitting on the railing at the balcony of the floor, when they tumbled over and crashed into the paved ground.

The incident happened on Friday, October 9, at about 1600 hours and the police are investigating to establish the full facts.
