Trader Robs Woman Of Car

A 50-year-old trader is in the grips of the police for allegedly snatching a car from a woman at Atomic, near Kwabenya, in Accra. Nana Osei Boakye is in the custody of the police assisting in investigations. Police source indicated that many people might have fallen victim to his modus operandi. The Kwabenya District Police Commander, Superintendent, Victoria Yamoah, told The Ghanaian Times in Accra yesterday that the complainant (name withheld) wanted to sell her car and displayed her mobile phone number on the car. She said that on September 30, at about 10 a.m., the complainant received a telephone call from Boakye who expressed interest in the vehicle. Supt. Yamoah said they both agreed to meet for Boakye to inspect and test the vehicle. Upon reaching Atomic, Boakye told the complainant that he wanted to drive the car to test it and she agreed. Whiles driving, Boakye told her that he could detect a fault in the car and suddenly stopped, Supt. Yamoah said. The Police Commander said as soon as the complainant got down to check the fault, Boakye bolted with the vehicle. She said the victim hired a taxi and chased Boakye to ACP area, in Accra, where he was stuck in traffic. Supt Yamoah stated that with the help of some people, Boakye was arrested and nearly lynched but a police patrol team rescued him. She said he was handed over to the Kwabenya Police to commence investigations, adding that a victim from Korle-Bu had also identified him.
