Gabby Otchere Darko, a leading member of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), says ”a dangerous precedent will be set if we go into an election with a register that is not credible”

According to him, the register that was used during the 2012 election was a ‘fraudulent one’ and that just cleaning it, will not be enough.

The NPP claims that the current voters register needs to be changed because it is flawed. However, the ruling National Democratic Congress insists that there is no need for a new register and that the current one just needs to be cleaned thoroughly.

Speaking in an interview on Citi FM, Gabby Otchere Darko said “the cost of having an election that is not credible is far greater than the cost of compiling a new voter’s register.”

“The register that we went into the last election with was a fraudulent one; it was built on a foundation of fraud…the argument should be how do we go into an election with a credible register… we’ve been cleaning this register and every time we clean it, we found something wrong with it. It tells you that there is something fundamentally wrong irredeemably with the register and if we want to go ahead and say we want to play with it, while the basis of the register itself is flawed, then you have an issue” he said.
