Court Convicts SCC Student and Two Others For Exam Malpractices

A Tamale district court yesterday concurrently convicted three students to different fines for engaging in examination malpractices by impersonation in the just ended WASSCE private exams.

Abdulai Mohammed, a student with Success City College in Tamale was sentenced to a fine of GH720.00 in default 3yrs imprisonment by the court presided over by His Honor Mr. Anthony Essah.

The other two; Alhassan Yussif 21 and Abubakari Saddick Iddrisu 20 was also convicted to a fine of GH1,200.00 in default 4 months imprison in the same court but presided over by Justice Augestine Essah.

Background to the Story

According to the Police Public Relations, ASP Ebenezer Tetteh, the three were all arrested on the same day during paper 3 of the Integrated Science subject.

He said Abdulai Mohammed was arrested at the campus of success City College during a biometric verification process.

"He was arrested during the biometric checking, they realized that the picture on the data and the person who had come to write the exam was different so the invigilator quickly raised an alarm and he was arrested"

ASP Tetteh said the suspected was immediately charged with impersonation after police investigation and was arraigned before the aforementioned court.

He explained again that the two other was arrested when Alhassan Yussif who came to sit in to write the Integrated Science paper 3 for his friend Abubakari Saddick was identified by the invigilator as one who had written the exam long ago and passed excellently.

He said the invigilator became suspicious and asked Yussif whether he was there to write for someone. Yussif according to the police PRO answered in affirmative and mentioned Abubakari Saddick.

The two were quickly arrested and were charged with "conspiracy to commit crime to wit, impersonation under section 5(a) of the WAEC act.

The three students were convicted on their plea.

Ebenezer Tetteh said the three had since paid their fines and were released.
