Two commercial properties under construction at Aboabo in Kumasi have been destroyed under the orders of the Ashanti Regional Minister, Peter Anarfi Mensah.
The Minister ordered the demolition of a structures built on two main pipe lines that supply water to over 15 communities in the metropolis, after efforts to stop the development allegedly failed.
Construction workers at the site took to their heels upon seeing soldiers who supervised the bulldozing of the structures.
Earlier, engineers of the Ghana Water Company (GWCL) had threatened to disconnect the pipes that supply water to areas like KNUST, Manhyia, Asawase, Sawaba, Aboabo and Airport and surrounding areas.
According to the Regional Chief Manager of Ashanti South of GWCL, Mr Daniel Muomaalah, anytime they tried to talk to the developers to stop building on the main lines, they were threatened with macho men.
