EC Must Change The Voters Register To Avert Conflicts In 2016 Chairman Wontumi

The Ashanti Regional New Patriotic Party [NPP] Chairman, Bernard Antwi Boasiako alias Chairman Wontumi, has said the Electoral Commission must hear the cry of Ghanaians to change the alleged bloated voters’ register.

According to him, the EC must do so to avert a possible 'war' in the country as seen in some parts of Africa.

“If the EC is really working for Ghana, then they must change the over bloated voters’ register to prevent a possible war in the country come 2016. We have seen such wars across Africa. Ghana is a peaceful country and we must maintain such status,” he said in an interview with NEAT FM morning show 'Ghana Montie'.

Between 2008 and 2012, available data by the NPP shows that there has been an unusual increase in the voters register in several constituencies but mainly in the Volta Region, acclaimed “world bank” of the ruling NDC.

Leadership of the NPP and Pressure group, Let My Vote Count Alliance [LMVCA] have petitioned former presidents, John Jerry Rawlings and John Agyekum Kufour to wade into the call of a new voters’ register.

The NPP according to their investigation team fished out 76,286 voters with the same names and faces on the Ghanaian and Togolese voters registers – however, the EC is yet to listen to their plea.
