Political Parties Urged To Exhibit Decorum Ahead Of 2016 Elections
Daasebre Awuah Kotoko II, Begorohene has called on political parties in the country to exercise a high level of decorum ahead of the 2016 Presidential and Parliamentary elections.
He said their campaign activities must be devoid of insults and personal attacks.
Daasebre Kotoko who is also the Benkumhene of the Akyem Abuakwa Traditional Area was speaking at the weekend at a grand durbar to end the Begoro Odwira (Ahwie) festival and to mark his 30th anniversary as the Begorohene at Begoro.
The theme for the celebration was, “Celebrating 30 years of exemplary leadership and soliciting funds to rebuild the palace.”
He advised all political parties to view themselves collectively as partners and not enemies, in their quest to bring about development in the country.
The Begorohene appealed to government to help rehabilitate the Begoro-Busoso road to help transport farm produce from the area to the marketing centres.
He called on the general public to support the building of the burnt palace which is under renovation.
Madam Mavis Ama Frempong, the Deputy Eastern Regional Minister, announced that all was set for the rehabilitation of the 10 kilometre road in Fanteakwa, including the Begoro township roads and the Osiem-Begoro road.
She also indicated that a project to hook 35 communities in the district to the national electricity grid was ongoing and assured that government would not relent in its effort to bring development in the communities and the well-being of people.
The Deputy Minister urged the public to refrain from acts of insults of leaders such as chiefs, pastors and politicians on the airwaves.
Mr Kwabena Amankwah Asiamah, Member of Parliament for Fanteakwa North, raised concern about the high rate of teenage pregnancies in the area and advised parents to pay attention to their children especially the girl child.
Later, the Regional Coordinating Council and the Fanteakwa District Assembly, pledged a scholarship to Josephine Yirenkyiwaa, a 16 year old pupil of the Begoro Anglican Junior High School, for her excellent poetry recital.
