Miner Remanded Over Defilement

A small scale miner, Kofi Kwaw, 25 has been remanded into prison custody by the Tarkwa circuit court for allegedly defiling a seven year-old girl.

The accused person would re-appear on November 17.
Mr Ebo Donkor, Lawyer of the accused pleaded with the court to impress on the prosecutor to make available the medical reports of the victim involved in the case to him.

He said his client is totally innocent of the charge leveled against him and that getting hold of the medical report would assist him in the case.
At an earlier sitting, the prosecutor, Detective Chief Inspector Oscar Amponsah, told the court that at about 0730 hours on August 24, the victim and two of her play mates went to the accused person’s room at Wasa Japa to watch television.

The Prosecutor said while in the room, the victim’s play mates, went outside and left her and Kwaw behind.
Chief Inspector Amponsah said the accused person then pulled the victim onto his bed and indecently abused her.

However, a witness who happened to be passing behind Kwaw’s house at the time of the incident, saw him in the act, and reported the incident to the victim’s mother.

A report was made at the Wasa Akropong police station, where the complainant was issued with a medical form to send the victim to the hospital.

Some sympathisers in Wasa Japa later arrested the accused person from his hideout and handed him over to the police.
