Akua Donkor's Argument On Voters' Register Absolutely Useless - Awuku

NPP’s Sammy Awuku has hit hard at the founder and leader of the Ghana Freedom Party (GFP), Akua Donkor’s participation in the just-ended Electoral Commission [EC] forum on the need to keep or change the voters’ register.

He noted that reasons given by the GFP leader was absolutely “useless” and “unfortunate”.

According to Madam Akua Donkor, the voters’ register must not be changed – in her view, minors claimed by the NPP in the register don’t necessarily vote in an election but acquire the voter ID card to receive remittances from their relatives abroad.

In this world, you cannot trust anyone with money, not even your family so the children see the registration as an opportunity to get an ID card just to receive remittances from their parents abroad,” she argued.

Akua Donkor said there is nothing wrong with the current biometric electoral register.

She insists claims of a bloated register by the NPP is just a figment of their imagination and should be treated with the contempt it deserves.

Any register should be changed after ten years, this one is only two years and there is nothing wrong with it. The NPP should give us a break,” she declared.

But speaking on NEAT FM’s morning show 'Ghana Montie', the National Youth Organizer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Sammy Awuku questioned – “Is the voters’ register a market place or a mobile money transfer stand? Such trivializing of a national issue by the woman [Akua Donkor] must stop.

He insisted that the media must disregard the “baseless” line of argument from Madam Akua Donkor – “we shouldn’t be joking as a nation.
