3 Killed In Robbery Attack

Three people, including a 12-year-old boy, were killed on Friday evening and Saturday morning in a terrifying robbery attack on a section of the Kofiase-Krobo road in the Ashanti Region.

Two of the victims—Evans Anane, the boy, and a man—died of gunshot wounds while the third person, identified as Bernice Opoku, was knocked down by a taxi which was trying to escape from the robbery scene.

Three of the robbery suspects, including one Bayiro Abacha, have since been arrested by the police and are expected to appear before court today.

Superintendent Bismark Agyapong, the Mampong Municipal Police Commander, said Inspector Francis Ahadzie, who was among a team of police officers patrolling the area, was seriously injured as they responded to the armed robbery incident.

The police officer was wounded in a shoot-out with the gang and as at press time yesterday, was on admission at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital with another victim who also sustained gunshot wounds, the police commander stated.

He added that six others were also admitted at the Mampong Government Hospital for treatment.

Supt Agyapong told DAILY GUIDE that the officers were called to the scene at about 6:15 pm on Friday to deal with the robbery operation after the hoodlums had attacked and raided a commercial vehicle.

In the process, Supt Agyapong disclosed that the cabbie ran over some of the victims who had been asked by the suspects to lie down on the road.

They included Bernice Opoku, who died while undergoing treatment at the hospital.

He disclosed that a third person was killed the following morning by a member of the gang when he was identified as a familiar face.

The police chief explained that the deceased person was the first to have got to the scene of the robbery and managed to identify some of the night marauders.
