Revolution Of Mind-Set Needed - Awuku Urges Youth

Sammi Awuku, National Youth Organiser of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) is urging the Ghanaian youth to embark on a total revolution of the mind-set and also stand up to demand change and force change through all legitimate means.

“The call for change is not only restricted to the move for a change in government come next year. The call for change is a call to the end of the current system of hopelessness and way of doing things, which has left the youth of Ghana greatly disappointed and struggling to compete with their fellows across the world”, Sammi Awuku stated in a statement issued over the weekend to mark the 10th African Youth Day.

NPP YOUTH WING STATEMENT ON THE 10TH AFRICAN YOUTH DAY

Youth Revolution of The Conscience

Greetings from the New Patriotic Party Youth Wing on the occasion of the 10th African Youth Day today.
The African Youth Day is set aside every year by the African Union to promote the increased recognition of youth, as key agents for social change.

For the NPP Youth Wing, the need for change is more pressing today than it has ever been in our history as a nation. Today more than ever, the Ghanaian youth needs to stand up to demand change and force change through all the legitimate means we can muster.

The call for change is not only restricted to the move for a change in government come next year. The call for change is a call to the end of the current system of hopelessness and way of doing things, which has left the youth of Ghana greatly disappointed and struggling to compete with their fellows across the world. It is a call for change to the current system, which cannot provide quality and affordable education to the highest levels; cannot provide good paying jobs and makes it impossible for the ordinary hardworking youth to have a decent life.

Today more than ever, Ghanaian youth are struggling to gain admissions into institutions of learning and struggling to cough up the huge sums needed to complete any cycle of education even when admitted - whether into a Senior High School, University, Polytechnic, Teacher Training College or Nursing Training College.

Today more than ever, the ordinary Ghanaian youth has been bedevilled with unprecedented joblessness. Millions of Ghanaian youth are jobless, even with the best of qualifications, and the government has totally turned a blind eye to this dangerous phenomenon and continues to worsen the plight of the youth with business adverse policies and a freeze on Public Sector employment. The plight of the female youth is rather depressing as the acute unemployment situation means that sexual favours must be exchanged for job opportunities. For people in the current government, as long as they are employed with our taxes, everyone can rot for all they care.

For even the few youth who by luck have found employment or a trade to support themselves, the high and rising cost of living as a result of the unprecedented mismanagement and incompetence, has ensured that earnings are never enough to sustain body and soul, not to talk about saving some for the future. The expected norm of youth marrying, building a family and living decently is becoming an exception rather than the rule.

It is time for the Ghanaian Youth to declare with a common voice, Enough is Enough! Enough is Enough! And begin to mobilise and organise for change in 2016.

For the NPP Youth Wing, which can count on the trust and support of millions of Ghanaian youth who are either members or sympathizers of the NPP or who view the NPP as the best solution to Ghana’s problems; we find it our legitimate duty to chart the course and lead this call for change.

It is for this reason why the Youth Wing is calling for a Youth Revolution of the conscience to end the current hopelessness. The Youth, who make up the largest bloc of the Ghanaian population, have been abandoned in the last 7 years and made irrelevant and it is time to make John Mahama, who has supervised this system, to feel our anger, frustration and pain through our mass mobilisation for change in 2016.

The NPP Youth Wing is by this statement calling on all Ghanaian Youth who feel disgruntled to stand up, speak out and mobilize for change. We recognize that we will be faced with a shadow minority of Youth who, due to their closeness to power, have secured their future and will say or do anything to discourage the mass of Ghanaian Youth from working for the Change we deserve. For such Youth, they will be on the wrong side of history. The struggle will not be easy, but we will win.

To lead the Youth Revolution of the conscience, the NPP Youth Wing will in the coming days initiate and support series of legitimate actions to drum home the need for change and lead the mobilization effort.

We urge the Youth to be resolute and focused in securing our collective future. It must be now or never.
Be ready to work for change. Be ready to work to secure your future.

…Signed…
