The Metropolitan Archbishop of Accra, the Most Reverend Gabriel Charles Palmer-Buckle has urged married couples to spread the good news about marriage life to the younger generation so that they do not fall prey to homosexuality and broken homes.

He said, most often married couples speak about unpleasant and bad sides of marriage life and asked them to also talk to others about positive side of marriage.

The Most Rev. Charles Palmer-Buckle, said these in Accra on Saturday, when he launched the 90th Anniversary of the Noble Order of the Knights and Ladies of Marshall, a catholic society.

He said a recent world conference of bishops held in Rome, had affirmed the need to “spread the gospel of marriage life, the good news in marriage,” and it is only married couples who could assist the church in that mission.

Most Rev. Palmer-Buckle said marriage and family life was important for the survival of society and that “marriage is a calling and a vocation” just like the priesthood.

“It is a calling to marry, a call to holiness like the priesthood,” he stressed and urged married couples to help the youth to appreciate marriage.

According to him, the church uphold the biblical teachings of marriage between a man and a woman and that “We don’t accept same sex union” as marriage.

The president of the Ghana Catholic Bishops Conference, the Most Rev. Joseph Osei-Bonsu, in his homily urged Christians to speak against homosexuality in the country.

He also urged Christians to wage war against corruption and to speak on political matters in the country.

Nana Oye Lithur, Minister of Gender and Social Protection, commended the Marshallan society for its charity and social protection works in the country.

She urged them to make use of social media and ICT to engage more proactively with the youth in the country.

The Supreme Knight of the Noble Order, Mr. Ernest Amoako-Arhen, disclosed that the Noble Order has 117 councils, 114 courts and 84 junior councils and courts.

He said they have branches throughout the country and also Togo, Benin, Liberia, United Kingdom and Sierra Leone, stressing that, efforts were being made to have councils and courts formed in La Cote d’Voire and Burkina Faso.

Mr. Amoako-Arhen said during the anniversary, members of the order would carry out charity works and organise lectures on the church.

The 90th anniversary of the Knights and Ladies of Marshall is a year-long event, from October 2015 to November 2016 to be celebrated throughout the Marshallan fraternity in Ghana, Togo, London, Liberia, Benin and Sierra Leone.

It is on the theme: “The Marshallan and the new evangelisation for the transmission of the faith”.
