Two people who attempted to bribe two policemen with GH¢500 after their arrest for allegedly possessing 30 slabs of dried leaves suspected to be Indian Hemp are in trouble.
Adamu Gariba, 45, a Nigerian and Hamidu Amadu,30, a Ghanaian, are being charged for attempting to bribe the policemen, who arrested them.
The two were arrested on Saturday, October 24, 2015 at Tema Community 9 at Gariba’s residence as a result of the vigilance of two police personnel patrolling on a motor bike, who smell the substance and traced it to a wooden structure where Gariba lived.
The Public Relations Officer of the Tema Regional Police Command, Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Juliana Obeng said a search conducted in Gariba’s room revealed 30 slabs of the dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp and subsequently arrested him and seized the dried leaves.
Upon interrogation, Gariba claimed ownership of the exhibits, but declined to give further information about its source.
ASP Obeng said it was when the police decided to send him to the police station that he decided to call his accomplice, Amadu, a trader who lived at Jericho, a suburb of Ashaiman, to the scene.
Hamidu, sensing danger, came along with GH¢500.00, which he offered as bribe to the Police officers in addition to 50,000 CFA, which had been offered to them earlier by Gariba.
She said the policemen took the monies and arrested the two suspects and brought them to the station together with the dried leaves for investigations.
ASP Obeng said the dried leaves would be sent to Police Forensic Laboratory in Accra for examination while the suspects have been charged with possessing narcotic drug without lawful authority and offering bribe to Influence a public officer and that they would be arraigned before court.
