Nigerian Woman Busted With Wee

The SWAT Unit of the Police Criminal Investigations Department (CID) has apprehended a 58-year-old Nigerian woman for attempting to transport about 630 slabs of compressed dry leaves suspected to be Indian hemp (wee) to Nigeria.

The suspect, identified as Grace Ada, was apprehended yesterday at Tudu, near the Makola market in Accra, together with her storekeeper, Jolayemi Joseph, 36 – also a Nigerian.

The items were concealed in about 14 bales of used clothing packed in their warehouse ready to be transported to Nigeria.

The two are currently at the police headquarters to assist in investigations.

Confirming the arrest to DAILY GUIDE, DSP Bismarck Achaab, commander in-charge of the SWAT Unit, said the two suspects were apprehended yesterday afternoon in a store called Gracepoju at Tudu upon a tip-off.

Grace Ada, owner of the store, claimed she is a trader and had been running her business from Ghana to Nigeria for the past 20 years.

DSP Bismarck Achaab said when the police got to the store where the said items were being kept yesterday afternoon, Grace was not available but her storekeeper, one Joseph, was there keeping watch over them (items).

He was immediately arrested and with his assistance, Grace was also grabbed.

When all the 14 bales of the used clothing were transported to the police headquarters and finally opened in the presence of the suspects, the police detected that each bale contained more than 50 slabs of the compressed dry leaves, claimed DSP Achaab.

The suspects will be handed over to the narcotic unit of the CID for investigations.
