The management of GLICO LIFE Insurance Company, one of the top Ghanaian life insurance Companies, has appointed Mr. John Ekar Smart as the new Chief Business Development Officer of the company.

Mr. Smart is bringing on board transformational strategies to the company and he takes up the new role to develop businesses for Individual Life Assurance. He is also tasked to instill marketing-led culture geared towards service differentiation and customer value creation.

Mr. Smart is an astute insurance salesperson with expert financial acumen. He began his insurance career in 1987 when he joined Gemini Life Insurance Company, now GLICO Life Insurance Company, as a Sales and Marketing Executive.

Through hard work and dedication, Mr. Smart was promoted to the rank of a marketing manager, the very first marketing manager position at Gemini Life; a position he held until he traveled to the USA to further his studies.

In the USA, he worked for over twenty years in banking. He worked assiduously and rose through the ranks to become an Assistant Vice President and a Banking Center Manager. Mr. Smart worked for the Bank of America N.A and with Susquehanna Bank N.A until 2014 when he returned home to Ghana.

Mr. Smart in an interview commented on the new dynamism and energy he is bringing to GLICO LIFE. He stated that, “this does not mean that the good practices and achievements of GLICO LIFE are gone. Rather it means new ideas, innovative services, improved products and value becomes the new standard for GLICO LIFE”.

He further added that he and his team would continue with the race of making GLICO LIFE a brand of choice and a world-class organization.

It is instructive to note that GLICO LIFE, a subsidiary of GLICO GROUP is the only life insurer in Ghana to be rated “B” by Standard & Poors Rating Agency.  It has a network of 23 agencies, branches and area offices in all 10 regions of Ghana delivering value to customers.
