I Regret Being A Mayor Kojo Bonsu

Mayor of Kumasi, Mr. Kojo Bonsu, has expressed his regret for being entrusted  with the running of the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA), as the  agent of  development for residents of the metropolis.

“I regret being a mayor”, he said, whilst expressing his anger over the invocation of curses by Assembly members at the premises of the KMA on Monday afternoon.

The mayor, who frowns on the practice where people resort to invocation of curses by calling on river deities to settle personal scores, described it as primitive and urged assembly members to rather concentrate on championing the development of the city, in line with their mandate along non-partisan lines. “These developments should not be encouraged because they impair development”, he explained.

Mr. Bonsu said he had always wished that the development of Kumasi is prioritized for the   residents, but regretted that the journey had not been smooth-sailing, as his genuine efforts have been thwarted by some unscrupulous elements.

The Mayor said he would make strenuous efforts for an out of court settlement of the impasse between his outfit and some aggrieved Kejetia traders, to ensure the smooth implementation of the Kejetia project.

The KMA boss, however, said the KMA, as a law abiding institution, would respect the rule of law and not stand in the way of the traders, who insist on going to the Appellate court to press their demand.

Two elected members of the assembly, Elliot Fosu Bannor, aka Puulele, assemblyman for Kuwait/Aprabon Electoral Area and Lawrence Adu, assemblyman for Afful Nkwanta had stormed the premises of KMA with bottles of Schnapps and eggs to invoke curses on some unidentified group of people.

They invoked the dreaded river deities of Antoa Nyamaa and Anyanta, as well as Akonedi, to strike some people dead. This was to counter an earlier curse invoked by some New Patriotic Party (NPP) youth against the assembly members.

The aggrieved NPP youth accused some known NPP assemblymen of collecting bribes to vote for Nana Adjei Kesse IV, Adumhene  and a government appointee, instead of Nana Kofi Senyah of the NPP.

Messrs Fosu and Adu, who claimed to be staunch NPP members, demanded that those who had earlier cursed the assemblymen must revoke it within 48 hours, or face the wrath of the three deities.
