Berock Chair challenges Indigenous contractors

The Chairman of indigenous construction firm, Berock Ventures ltd, Rockson Dogbegah has challenged Ghanaian companies to prove that they are capable of controlling the commanding heights of the economy.

He said this should be shown in their delivery and commitment to work.

Mr. Dogbegah made the comment on the sidelines of the Construction Excellence Awards, when he and 19 others were given awards at the event, organised by the Ghana Institute of Construction (GIOC).

The GIOC, an umbrella body of construction engineers held the awards ceremony to honour builders, who have excelled in the industry for the past 20 years.

It honoured deserving industry players from among surveyors, construction engineers, building managers and others, who have played vital roles in the real estate industry. A committee of eminent was tasked to select those deserving of the honours.

Mr. Dogbegah, who was grateful for the awards, said he feels motivated to continue setting higher targets for himself and his company.

He said Ghana as a developing country would require a lot of infrastructure, which implies that the construction opportunities are vast, but cautioned that if indigenous contractors fail to up their game to the standards of international players, then the opportunities would elude them.

Mr. Dogbegah, who is a crusader for the industry, called for a concerted effort to build the capacity of indigenous players and challenged the GIOC to take on that challenge.

The President of GIOC, Prof. Joshua Ayarkwa, explained that the purpose for instituting the awards programme is to champion the cause of the construction industry, which he said, has not been given the needed recognition it deserves.

He commended those who have acted professionally and challenged others to emulate the good examples.
