Presbyterian Church commended on its role in development

The Deputy Eastern Regional Minister, Mr Babal Jamal, has commended the Presbyterian Church of Ghana on its role in the enhancement of socio economic development of the nation. He said the government recognized the contribution of the church towards the provision of basic and tertiary education as well as health and agriculture throughout the country since it was established 181 years ago. Mr Jamal therefore called on other churches to emulate the Presbyterian Church and contribute their quota to the building of the nation. He said this at the opening of the 47th Annual National Delegates Conference of the Womens Fellowship of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana at the Aburi Girls Senior High School on Thursday. The conference which was under the Theme Let us Rise up and Build brought together 500 delegates drawn from all the 15 presbyteries of the church. The Deputy Minister said the theme of the conference was very relevant not only for the church but for the nation as well. He said that was at a time when globally, national economies were faced with the effects of the world economic crunch and the government was mobilizing material and human resources for the holistic transformation of the nation. The Clerk of the General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana, Reverend Herbert Anim Oppong, said during the rebuilding of the temple of Israel by Nehemiah, he met challenges from his own people but he was not discouraged. He said Nehemiah was focused and kept on building until he achieved his main objective within a short time in spite of all the challenges he went through. Rev Oppong urged the government not to relent on its efforts to build Ghana from where it took over. He reminded the government that it would face challenges from both the opposition and even within but it should not be discouraged and to accept criticism in good faith.
