EC Holds Amenfi West By-Election On December 15

The Electoral Commission has announced it will hold a by-election in the Amenfi West Constituency of the Western Region on December 15, 2015, to elect a new member of parliament.

The by-election to be held in accordance with Article 112 (5) of the Constitution as amended, follows the sudden death on October 13, of the then MP John Gyetuah.

“The election will be held on Tuesday, the 15th Day of December, 2015 from 7:00am to 5:00pm”, a statement by the EC said Monday evening.
 

The EC said nominations for the election will be taken on Wednesday, November 18 and Thursday, November 19 at the Asankragwa office of the Commission from 8:00am to 12:00noon and 2:00pm to 5:00pm each day.

“Nomination forms may be obtained from the Returning Officer at the District Office or the Regional Office of the Commission in Sekondi.

“Prospective candidates shall attach four recent photographs of bust size, with red background showing the full face and both ears, to the completed nomination forms.

“The filing fee for the election remains One Thousands Ghana Cedis (GH 1000.00)”, the statement signed by Deputy Chairman (Operations), Amadu Sulley said.

John Gyetuah died at the age of 65, after he was discovered unconcious in his room on the morning of October 13. He was a member of the ruling National Democratic Congress and previously served as a Deputy Minister of Trade and Industry and later Minister of State at the Presidency during President Mills’ presidency.
