Church urged to act in concert with State to stop waywardness

The Church has been urged to link up with the state to address the growing indiscipline and waywardness of the present generation of the countrys youth. Ms Harriet Yankah, National President of the Children of Mary, a Youth Group of the Catholic Church, said rising immorality, crime, violence and other socially reprehensible lifestyles, that are fast becoming associated with young people must be a source of worry to all. The church should therefore accept the challenge of providing the necessary leadership that would help the youth turn them away from wrong-doings to lead upright lives. Ms Yankah was speaking at the 31st thanksgiving mass to draw the curtains down on the Groups annual national youth camp at the Saint Pauls Catholic Church at Amakom in Kumasi. More than 700 members from Eastern, Ashanti, Brong-Ahafo and Central regions took part in the six-day meeting. She counselled the youth not to be obsessed with money, warning that, this could lead them to evil and ruin their future. They should rather remain focused on knowledge acquisition through education, set targets and determine what they would want their future to look like. The Very Reverend Father Emmanuel Addai, Parish Priest of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church at South Suntreso in Kumasi, praised the group for the active role and contribution to the development of the church. He urged them to intensify their efforts at winning souls for Christ and save lives. The Parish Priest called on the youth to lead righteous lives to stay clear of acts likely to project a bad image of the Christian religion. The Very Rev. Father Addai said they needed to make a difference in society by ensuring that they live Christ-like lives.
