NPP Ready For Amenfi West By-Election

The Western Regional branch of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) is working assiduously to win the upcoming parliamentary by-election in the Amenfi West constituency of the region.

The Electoral Commission (EC) on Monday announced the holding of the by-election on December 15, 2015, to elect a new member of parliament.

The by-election is to be held in accordance with Article 112 (5) of the Constitution, following the sudden death of the Member of Parliament (MP), John Gyetuah, on October 13, 2015.

The EC said nominations for the election will be on Wednesday, November 18 and Thursday, November 19 at the Asankragwa office of the Commission from 8am to 12noon and 2pm to 5pm each day.

“Nomination forms may be obtained from the Returning Officer at the District Office or the Regional Office of the Commission in Sekondi.

“Prospective candidates shall attach four recent photographs of bust size, with red background showing the full face and both ears, to the completed nomination forms.

“The filing fee for the election remains One Thousands Ghana Cedis (GH¢1,000),” a statement signed by Amadu Sulley, EC Deputy Chairman (Operations) indicated.

Speaking to DAILY GUIDE, Abdul Ganiyu Mohammed, Western Regional organizer of the NPP, expressed optimism that the party’s candidate, Paul Dekyi, a legal practitioner, would clinch victory.

He explained that the constituents had realized that since the National Democratic Congress (NDC) government assumed office about seven years ago, every sector of the Ghanaian economy is in decline.

He noted that this was evident in the worsening living standards of the people of Amenfi West.

The economic mess the nation has been plunged into, he said, required a change in government in 2016, stressing that the NPP will have to win the 2016 election to save Ghana.

Ganiyu Mohammed pointed out that the NPP’s candidate, Paul Dekyi, is the people’s choice and that he would win the seat for the party.

“We can honestly say that the NDC has no chance in winning this contest. So far so good, the NPP has really built a strong ground as far as this by-election is concerned,” he added.
