No Acting Chair Role In NPPs Constitution...Any Meeting Not Held By Afoko Is Illegal - Sammy Crabbe

The never ending rumpus going on in the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) has taken a new height as the second Vice National Chairman, Sammy Crabbe has declared his first Vice National Chairman, Freddie Blay's elevation to an Acting Chairman role as a coup d’état.

As far as Sammy Crabbe is concerned, the Chairman of the NPP is still Mr. Paul Afoko, rubbishing the suspension by the party’s National Executive Committee (NEC) a couple of weeks ago.

The second Vice National Chairman of NPP on Okay Fm’s Ade Akye Abia Morning Show posited that the party’s constitution only allows the National Chairman, Paul Afoko to convene NEC meetings and described the meeting which saw the suspension of the National Chairman as illegal.

...this is what the constitution stipulates,” Sammy Crabbe said.

The constitution of our party is very clear and if someone wants to amend it then they should call for delegates conference. As per our constitution, if you want to remove Chairman Afoko, whether temporarily or permanently, go back to the delegates for 40 percent signatures and after that another congress will be held to determine if they want him out or not,” he stated.

He reiterated that “in our constitution, there is nothing like acting chairman”; adding that it is scary not for only NPP but Ghana as a whole because this gives room for anybody to just wake up to usurp the government of the day.

The fear is that, if we allow this to happen, any elected officer including parliamentary candidates can be removed without going back to the delegates who voted for them; they cannot focus on their works,” he charged.

He was of the view that if NPP cannot protect the right of people within the party, it will be hard for the NPP to protect the right of Ghanaians when they are given the mandate to rule; adding this is sending a wrong signal to the electorates.
