NPP Man Goes Independent

Dr. Ernest Opoku, a New Patriotic Party (NPP) stalwart has opted to contest the 2016 parliamentary election in the Atwima Kwanwoma constituency of the Ashanti Region as an independent candidate.

Dr. Opoku’s presence in the 2016 general election race poses a threat to the incumbent in more ways than one, because, he has the tacit support of the core of the party’s supporters, who are largely former executive members such as chairmen.

The independent candidate is up against Dr. Kwadwo Appiah Kubi, but he believes has he possesses qualities of objectivity status in society, leadership skills and better packaged electoral message.

Dr. Opoku, a medical practitioner has, thus, challenged the Atwima Kwanwoma residents to vote massively for him during the upcoming general election in 2016.

He made the appeal in an interview with the DAILY HERITAGE during a house-to-house campaign at Foase, Twedie, and Tarbuom, all in the Atwima Kwanwoma District with over 300 foot soldiers including NPP party card holders.

The electoral history of Atwima Kwanwoma indicates that it is the stronghold of the NPP and the Danquah-Busia tradition since the demarcation of the district from Bosomtwe in the year 2008 by the former president John Agyekum Kufuor administration.
