Heady Days To NDC Primaries: MP Aspirant In Mid-Night NHIS Reg. Scandal

Heady days to the National Democratic Congress’ (NDC) 21st November, this year, country-wide primaries, more last-minute shenanigans have started emerging in some constituencies where the party has clouts, such that whoever wins is likely to represent the area in Parliament come the 2016 general elections.

One of such areas is the Agotime-Zoipe constituency in the Volta Region, where one of the candidates spoiling to win the seat, Charles Agbeve, the former Ho Municipal National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) manager is alleged to be involved in a midnight registration of party members onto the scheme.

His modus operandi, the paper learnt, is to go round to the delegates with the forms and at midnight, supposedly register them onto the scheme with the promise to do more if voted to represent the constituency as their MP candidate for the 2016 elections.

Smarting under the fear of losing the primary to a media practitioner, Madam Akusika Kpene Ansah, who has been touted as the most likely candidate to win the contest, Charles Agbeve is also alleged to be involved in a lot of high-profile blunders to test his chances at winning.

With Madam Juliana Azumah Mensah, the incumbent MP for the area not contesting again, four people: the vice-chairman of the Agotime-Ziope Association, Mr David Dzreke, former Ho Municipal National Health Insurance Scheme Manager, Mr. Charles Agbeve, a media practitioner, Madam Akusika Kpene Ansah, and Mr Elvis Attivoe will be slugging it out to see who leads the constituents to the 2016 general elections.

Independent surveys conducted by this paper however revealed it would be a two-horse race where the editor of the Volta Gist newspaper would emerge victorious with marginal win.

“Aunty Akpene will win as for the rest don’t mine them. Last night Charles came to my house and registered my entire household onto the NHIS. Meanwhile when he was the manager I personally went to him in his office to help me register my family, he didn’t mind me. How can I vote for such a person?” one of the constituency executives whom we garb with anonymity told this paper in the constituency over the weekend.
