Ahead of NDC Primaries: Kpando Palace Under Lock-And-Key

Suspicions that some sub-chiefs in political garbs may have infiltrate the Kpando Palace, in the Volta Region, to clandestinely organize political meetings and press conferences, and brandish it with chieftaincy colours in favor of a particular parliamentary aspirant ahead of the upcoming National Democratic Congress (NDC) Primaries, have forced Chiefs and Elders of the area to locked up their palace temporarily.

In a press statement signed by representatives of the council of elders from the three traditional divisions in Kpando- Togbui Adza Lokko (VII), Senior Divisional Chief, Gbodome Division, Mamaga Agbalisi, Paramount Queen-mother of Kpando, and Togbui Asumadu (VII), Senior Divisional Chief, Atsiafume Division,  alleged that some of their sub-chiefs, for some selfish reasons had been meddling in dirty political games against the Member of Parliament (MP) for the area, Hon Dela Sowah, an action they have described as disgraceful and divisive.

“It has also come to our notice that some chiefs are campaigning for certain aspirants in the NDC primaries to be held on 21st November 2015. We distance ourselves from it and advise such colleagues of ours to put a stop to such disgraceful, shameful and divisive acts in their own interest and in the interest of the Akpini state”, the statement said.

According to the chiefs, the partisan sub-chiefs in a particular press statement, among other things had claimed there was hot blood between Hon Delah Sowah and the chiefs in the area, and that she was not needed as their MP.

“As a matter of fact, she is one of the finest daughters of our land, meek, humble and liked by the majority of the people. We as chiefs and opinion leaders totally support Hon. Mrs Dela Sowah as our MP and we adore her as a gem, rising to this high office of the land. We as chiefs do not meddle in partisan politics and for that matter did not organize, support nor had any hand in that diabolic act of disgrace and impunity by few disgruntled youth of Kpando, Sovie, and Gbefi”, they Noted.

Spokesman for the Chiefs, Togbui Komla Teng (V), also the Chief of Kpando Aloyi- Anyigbe division, further admonished the chiefs and the youth as a whole to “channel their wisdom into the development of Kpando”, and desist from all sort of violence.

He said the basis on which they had wrongly vented their spleen were baseless and parochial, backed by selfish interests.

“We as chiefs dissociate ourselves from such disgraceful acts…it is not as if we had been silence over the issue, but were mopping up to making sure those involved in the disgraceful misrepresentation of Kpando chiefs are brought to book”, he added.
