According to him, the delegates who are the real ‘owners’ of the party have amply demonstrated that they are ready to work with him to secure victory for the NPP in next year’s general election which promises to be keenly contested.

Several political analysts have concluded that Mr Afoko who has been suspended indefinitely currently has no influence and authority over the party after his directive restraining the National Executive Committee (NEC) members from attending a meeting called by the Acting Chairman, Freddy Blay which Mr Afoko described as illegal, was blatantly disregarded.

Editor-in-chief of the New Crusading Guide Kweku Baako Jnr has dared Mr. Afoko to test his leadership if indeed he is still in charge of NPP as its National Chair.

“I would have opted for Mr. Afoko to test this suspension decision via the appeal process (National Council). But if he says he is still in charge …I would want him to test his being in charge by seeking to try to convene a meeting of the steering committee, National Executive Committee meeting and National Council meeting and see if those meetings will come up. This is the best way to test whether the King is indeed naked or not.”

Yet Mr Afoko insists he is still in charge of the NPP.

Addressing the media in Accra on Wednesday, Mr Afoko insisting that he still wields command over the party insisting the verdict of the delegates matter and not that of a selected few who are out there to undermine him.

“The owners of the NPP are not some seventy (70) people sitting in a room at the party Headquarters in Accra. The real owners are the people who gathered in Tamale and voted for me, they are ready to work with me. That is where power lies and not the party headquarters.”
