CEO Of DKM Microfinance Back In Custody

The embattled Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the DKM Diamond Microfinance Company Limited, Mr Martin Delle, was on Monday remanded in prison custody for his inability to satisfy his bail conditions.

He is to reappear before the Sunyani Magistrate’s Court on Friday, November 20, 2015, in a case in which some managers of a non-bank financial institution, Creative Fun Club, have filed a suit against him for his inability to pay the accrued interest and investment of members of the club.

The fun club, with branches located in various parts of the Brong Ahafo Region, was established by Mr Delle and has been used to mobilise thousands of Ghana cedis.
Remand
Last Friday, the court remanded Mr Delle and one of his directors, Mr Richard Zawi, in prison custody.

However, when they reappeared before the court, presided over by Mr Jojo Hayford on Monday, they were each granted a GH¢50,000 bail, with three sureties, two of which should be justified.

Unfortunately, they could not satisfy all the bail conditions and had to be sent back to prison. Hours after the court had adjourned, Mr Delle and some of his workers were still sitting in the courtroom struggling to satisfy the bail conditions.

More than 150 people, most of whom customers of the microfinance company, picketed the outside the small courtroom as they waited to hear the outcome of the proceedings. They would not disperse, even when policemen informed them that the court had adjourned.

Bailiffs

While Mr Delle was struggling to avoid spending more days behind bars, information was rife that some bailiffs were waiting outside the court to serve him with more writs to appear before other courts.

Early this month, Mr Delle was dragged before the Sunyani Magistrate’s Court over his failure to refund the investment of one of his customers. The court last Friday, November 13, 2015, ordered him to come up with a schedule to refund the investment of his numerous customers.

He could, however, not provide the court with such a plan and that case was also rescheduled for November 26, 2015.
