Some registered voters who are not members of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) turned up at one of the polling centers in the Western Region on Saturday to cast their ballot in the ruling party's primaries, thinking it was a general election.

Numbering about 50, these clueless citizens – most of whom are old women – queued at the Well Road Methodist School voting center in the Sekondi Constituency to vote.

The frenzy generated by the NDC primaries in the Sekondi township may have influenced these citizens into thinking the election was for everybody, our correspondent explains.

Presiding Officer of the Electoral Commission of Ghana Emmanuel Cudjoe told TV3’s Ebenezer Abakah that officers took pains to explain to these unsuspecting persons that the elections were for NDC members.

“I think it is the education that may not have gone down well,” Mr Cudjoe said, adding that most of them were turned away. Voting is taking place in all but one constituencies of the Western Region.
