Alban Bagbin Wins

Majority Leader and Member of Parliament (MP) for Nadowli/Kaleo constituency, Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin, has retained his position to represent the party in the 2016 parliamentary elections.

Bagbin who was seeking to represent his people a seventh time won by a landslide after winning majority of the polling stations in the constituency.

He polled 3237 votes in what was practically a three-candidate race, beating his closest challenger and university lecturer, Mr Roger Galee, and customs officer Salifu Dumbah who had 1696 and 1090 votes respectively.

A fourth candidate, David Banye, who withdrew from the contest late on, still received 12 votes from the expanded electoral college.

The victory leaves Mr Bagbin with next year's general elections as the sole challenge as he bids to return to parliament.

This is the first time Mr Bagbin has gone through a primary, his previous bids having gone smoothly as an unopposed candidate.

There are wild scenes of jubilation among his supporters in Nadowli, Kaleo, and other smaller towns in the constituency following signals of his victory.
