IGP Issues Order To Regional Commanders

The Inspector General of Police (IGP), John Kudalor has directed all commanders to set up political desks at the various regional headquarters to monitor political activities in the region and submit their reports daily.

He said the political desk should be manned by a senior police officer who has the capacity to analyze political trends within the regions and make objective recommendations.

“Such reports may serve as basis to direct police operations in the regions,” he said.

Addressing commanders during his first regional police commanders’ conference since assuming office as chief constable at the police headquarters in Accra yesterday, Mr. Kudalor said the conference was to enhance professionalism in the Ghana Police Service in order to effective protect lives and property.

The conference was also to enable commanders align their operational activities appropriately towards achieving the vision.

“You must be fair to all political parties since they are watching our actions and listening to our utterances and as a police officer we cannot compromise our professional principles.

Indiscipline

Touching on indiscipline in the service, Mr. Kudalor said, “Commanders and officers condone little things and make unnecessary compromises in the name of being liberal officers so that they may look good in the eyes of the rank and file.”

Citing examples, the chief constable said some personnel wear their uniforms without tags, walk in town without head gears and drive all kinds of vehicles in uniforms without caps.

“Others even drive marked police vehicles without uniforms while some also hold their caps in their hands whilst in uniform.”

He said members of the public were not enthused about the conduct of some personnel who undermine efforts aimed at instilling discipline and professionalism.

Christmas

Mr Kudalor informed commanders that the Headquarters Operation Directorate had released a national operation plan for the festive period.

He said the operation plan would help the commanders to develop their plan based on the national one.

“You should also develop your plans based on the regional plan to make sure that citizens of this country enjoy the festive period in relative peace without fear of crime.
