Police Commander Gives Fraudsters A Hot Chase

There was dramatic scene in the high street of Dichemso in Kumasi on Tuesday afternoon when the Tafo Pankrono District Police Commander engaged a fake money swindler in a hot chase to cause his arrest.

Superintendent David Kwaku Amoako, the district commander, had to muster all his athletic skills to out-sprint the suspect, Larry Salifu, before apprehending him with assistance of onlookers.

Also arrested besides Salifu was his accomplice, Mahama Karim.

A big travelling bag containing fake Ghanaian currencies and some items in a smaller bag, believed to be used for charming, were found with them.

The items included sheep’s horns, blood smeared gourds  containing feathers, pieces of red cloths and  bottles wrapped with some clothes, as well as  stones smeared with blood.

Ashanti Regional Deputy Police Commander, Assistant Commissioner of  Police (ACP) Ampofo Duku, told newsmen here that the police got intelligence report from a hotel in Kumasi, where the two suspects had gone to lodge.

According to the police, the hotel staff became suspicious of the movement and behaviour of their guests, and therefore alerted the police.

ACP Duku said on seeing the police Larry the suspects threw the bags away and took to his heels, prompting Supt. Amoako to give him the chase.

“When the two suspects were taken into the room they had booked, the police found bundles of fake currencies on the floor. When the second bag was opened it was full of ‘juju’ items.

“Interestingly, Larry told the police in the presence of newsmen that he did not know what was in the bags.”

They have been placed in police custody pending prosecution.

ACP Duku asked the public to be wary of people claiming to have the ability to double money.
