Asantehene praises Anglican Church

Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, Asantehene, on Sunday commended the Anglican Church for its immense contribution to the socio-economic development of the country. He said the church had over the years served as an agent of change to shape the lives of most Ghanaians for the better, through numerous projects and programmes. This was contained in a speech read on his behalf at a crusade to round-off the 36th anniversary celebration of the Anglican Diocese of Kumasi held at the Golden Jubilee Park in Kumasi. It was on theme: Thanking God for the Church as an Agent of Transformation of the Society. The Asantehene expressed the hope that the church would not be complacent with its achievements but would strive to address the challenges of society. Otumfuo Osei Tutu urged Christians to pray hard for unity and peace to prevail in the country. Mr Kofi Opoku Manu, Ashanti Regional Minister, underscored the resolve of government to partner the church in solving the developing challenges facing Ghana. He cautioned the youth to gear their energy towards profitable ventures and shun activities and practices that could be detrimental to their career development. The Right-Reverend Daniel Yinkah Sarfo, Anglican Bishop of Kumasi, paid glowing tribute to the founders of the church, saying since the creation of the diocese in 1973, it had contributed to saving many lost lives to the glory of God. The church had also initiated many projects in health, education, agriculture and technology to the benefit of society.
