AK 47 Thief Busted

A 29-year-old man, who allegedly stole an AK 47 assault rifle from a duty police officer and was renting it out to supposed criminals at Pokuase in the Greater Accra Region, has been grabbed by the Amasaman District police.

The suspect, Anthony Agbozo, according to reports, allegedly collects various amounts of money from his clients, who include suspected armed robbers. The quantum of money depends on the number of days the gun will be in use.

He was arrested at his home at Pokuase on Monday, November 30, 2015 upon a tip-off.

Confirming the arrest to Daily Guide, DSP Elvis Bawa Sadongo, Amasaman District Police Commander, said on June 25, 2015, a police officer (name withheld) reported to the Amasaman police that somebody broke into his house and stole his AK 47 rifle while he was asleep.

He said, as the matter was being investigated, the police discovered that the rifle was taken from the police officer while he was on duty.

The officer, per police regulations, is standing trial at the law court for losing the weapon.

DSP Elvis Bawa Sadongo disclosed that while the matter was still under investigations, police had a tip-off that Agbozo had in his possession an AK 47 which he had hidden inside his room and renting it out to people.

Police raided his house last week but the weapon was not inside the room.

Anthony Agbozo, according to sources, had a hint that the police had got wind of the whereabouts of the rifle and so went to hide it at another place to avoid being caught.

DSP Bawa Sadongo said the police managed to locate the place the weapon was being kept and retrieved it from the suspect.

Agbozo was apprehended and upon interrogation, claimed he stole the gun from a police officer on duty.

When asked what he was doing with it, he said some of his friends often came to borrow it for use.

The suspect will soon be sent to court for prosecution.
