Tsatsus Wife Does Not Deserve GH600,000 GNPC Package

The Minority Spokesperson on Energy and Mines, Mr K.T Hammond says the former Public Affairs Manager of the Ghana  National Petroleum Commission(GNPC), Esther Cobbah had no basis to make claims for any entitlements now after she rejected a redundancy package government paid her in the year 2001.

Mr. K.T Hammond insists that Cobbah, wife of Tsatsu Tsikata, together with others in the Public Affairs department of the regulatory body were paid some huge amount as redundancy package following a massive lay-off of a number of personnel from the Corporation.

“Clear route is there for her to check it again with the GNPC; All those who were affected in the redundancy at GNPC at the time were settled. she was given her redundancy package but refused to accept it because at the time she felt it was a peanut” K.T Hammond cleared in an interview with Accra-based Citi FM.

The former Public Affairs Manager at the Ghana National Petroleum Corporation (GNPC), Esther Cobbah has refuted claims by K.T. Hammond that she, along with three others, have been paid ex-gratia.

A statement from Esther Cobbah Tuesday said the allegations by K.T. Hammond are without basis.

She said “as at now, no payment has been made to me by GNPC though I am owed significant amounts for work done and from my contributions to the Provident Fund whilst I was in the employment of the Corporation.”

Reacting to the denial by Esther Cobbah, the legislator for Adansi Asokwa said she[Cobbah] never worked for free, and that all the employees at the very department that she superintended over had been given their due packages accordingly when they were asked to go home.

“There were so many people employed at the GNPC and they were not needed in the search for hydro carbons for the country- and so some of them had to be made redundant, but they were all settled to the best of my knowledge”
