Your Government Is Very Competent - Bawumia To Prez Mahama

The running mate to the presidential candidate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr Mahamudu Bawumia has mocked President Mahama for criticising those who have described his administration as incompetent.

According to Dr Bawumia, “we understand that His Excellency does not want us to use the word incompetent to describe the performance of this government. So we set our minds to finding out what the National Democratic Congress (NDC) government has been very competent at in the last seven years. Actually, we have to admit that this NDC government is very competent…”

Dr Bawumia was responding to the 2016 budget statement by Finance Minister, Seth Terkper at a press conference he addressed at the NPP Headquarters Wednesday.

According to Dr Bawumia, the economy has fallen apart despite promises by the NDC government of a ‘Better Ghana’.

“The reality for most Ghanaians is that the economic policies of this government have destroyed many lives as young graduates are unable to find jobs, people are unable to pay school fees for their wards, people cannot pay for hospital fees, businesses are collapsing, etc,” he said.

“Many lives have been destroyed and the economy has rather been deformed and not transformed. We have kept warning the government that you cannot use propaganda to manage an economy. The reality is that the people are suffering under this government and there is no transformation. Propaganda cannot change this reality,” he continued.

Outlining several failed promises and policies by the Mahama-led government, Dr Bawumia noted that, “it is remarkable that His Excellency the president will complain about the use of the word incompetent.”

He mockingly said, “They [NDC] are very competent at mismanaging the economy. This government is very competent at creating, looting and sharing. This government is very competent at propaganda. This government is very competent at perpetuating dumsor. It’s very competent at increasing unemployment…”

Dr Bawumia further noted that “as a matter of record, we want to reiterate that not only do we say that this government is incompetent. We also said that the government is very corrupt but it looks like the president was only concerned at the incompetence bit and not the corruption bit for reasons that we are not yet been told.”
