Best Player Went Home `Walking`

The fourth Ghana Football Association (GFA) Premier League Board Glo premier league awards night went down in history as one of the best organized, but the overall winner - Hasaacas Joseph Ato Bissah went home walking. Uncharacteristically, the organizers of the event decided to shelve the idea of rewarding the flagship winner with a vehicle, since according to them no player played above himself in the just ended season. As part of efforts to improve the awards system, the Welbeck Abrah-Apiah-led PLB has decided to rather present the flagship award to the most outstanding club of the season. Accompanied by his parents, Bissah, beaming with smiles, received a cute crystal-like trophy. Accra Hearts of Oak were crowned as the champions for the 2008/09 season, with Asante Kotoko, Hearts of Lions and King Faisal following in that order. It was Hearts of Oaks young dribbling sensation - Tawrick Jibril, who emerged as the most promising player, while SP Mirren Mahatmah Otoo won the discovery of the season award. Bechem Chelseas Lee Addy was voted the best defender of the season with Local Black Stars cum Hearts regular goalkeeper - Philemon McCarthy, beating Lions Stephen Ahorlu and Kotokos Isaac Amoako to grab the best goalkeepers award. Kotokos striker, Alex Asamoah, succeeded his predecessor Eric Bekoe, by scoring 16 goals to win the top scorer award. Paa Kwesi Fabin was adjudged the best coach of the season, while Hearts of oaks Nii Ayibonte, a.k.a Thomas Okai won the best CEO award. Class 1 referee Samuel K. Gyasi finished the past season as the best referee, while FIFA referee David Laryea won the best assistant referee award. The new awards category saw Graphic Sports Samuel Ebo Kwaitoo winning the best football journalist (print) award, while Metro TV won the best football TV station award. The best football presenter award went to Metro TVs Christopher Opoku, with Happy FM emerging as the best football radio station. Liberty Professionals won the best club supporters award, while Bechem Chelsea grabbed the fair play club award. The GFA Presidents award (Posthumous) went to J.Z.X.X.X. Ackom, who lost his life on the line of duty after covering the Eleven Wise-Hearts 13th week fixture in March, 2009. Mr. K. Ampem-Darko received the GFA/PLB special award for meritorious and dedicated services. The speeches delivered by the vice President John Mahama, Kwesi Nyantakyi, FA boss, PLB boss Abra-Appiah, Mohammed Jameel, Glos chief operating officer, Ackah Anthony, SWAG President, Emmanuel Adotey, GHALCA chairman and Ken Ashigbey, MD, OMP, were full of adoration and commendation for the FA and PLB, Glo and OMP, and other stakeholders.
