Nana Antwi is Ga Central best farmer

Nana Yaw Antwi Genesis, the Director of Genesis Farms, has emerged the overall best farmer in the 31st Ga Central Municipal Assembly farmers’ day celebration in Accra.

The 2015 event was on the theme: “Transform Ghana: Invest in Agriculture.”

The winner, who owns Genesis Farms, located at Bortianor in Ga Central Municipality was rewarded with one chest deep freezer, one Knapsack sprayer, one bundle wire mesh, three pairs of Wellington boot, one wheel barrow, 10 bags of wheat bran and a half piece of wax print.

In the women category, Ms Vivian Glakpe, emerged the winner of the Best Woman Farmer Award and also took home one knapsack sprayer, one weighing scale, one bundle wire mesh, five bags of wheat bran, three pairs of Wellington boot, one wheel barrow, and a half piece of wax print.

The best Poultry farmer went to Mr Ruben Adeng, while the Best micro livestock farmer went to Mordechai Nyamekye.

The best Market Woman went to Mrs Esther Duah, while Best processor went to Mrs Betty Attipoe Nyakutse.

The Best mushroom farmer went to Mr Seth Dogbatse, whereas the Best Organised Group went to Peace and Unity Group.

The Best Vegetable farmer went to Mr Ganiyu Yoda, a chief security at Odorgonno Senior High School.

Mr Aristo Aryee, the Municipal Chief Executive, said when investments are done in the agricultural sector, it is translated into foreign exchange.

He said: “We must respond to the call by the President for the private sector to support in transforming the sector for national development.”

The MCE said it is when the private sector invests in the agricultural sector that sustainability would be attained.

He, therefore, urged the youth to undertake farming as an occupation to reduce the crime rate in the municipality and the nation at large.

Mr Aryee expressed appreciation to individuals and organisations, who in diverse ways supported the celebration of the 31st National Farmers’ Day.

He commended the award winners for distinguishing themselves, and urged them to share their vital experiences with their colleague farmers so that they could also excel and produce more food for the nation next year.

Ms Shirley Ayorkor Botchway, Member of Parliament for Weija, also congratulated the awardees for their hard work to feed the country with their produce.

The overall best farmer expressed gratitude to the Ministry of Food and Agriculture for giving him and his team the needed technical support.

He said the management of his farm intended to take on young people on a joint venture service to equip them with the knowledge of organic farming.
