A total of 20 farmers in the Asuogyaman District were awarded with certificates and various items for their hard work.
A 53-year-old Fuseini Abukari from Adjena Kwaepom was adjudged the Best District farmer this year.
He was awarded cutlasses, a pair of wellington boots, a wheel barrow, roofing sheets, a full piece of cloth and a table top refrigerator.
Rebecca Asantewaa, 59, from Apeguso also was adjudged best female farmer and received cutlasses, a pair of wellington boots , herbicides, a knapsack sprayer , a wheelbarrow and and a piece of cloth.
The best youth farmer award went to 29-year-old Joseph Nyarko, also from Apeguso and he received similar items.
The rest of the 17 farmers all took home other items including bicycles, fishing nets, ice chests among others.
Mr Daniel Oduro, the District Director for Agriculture, said a greater portion of the produce of farmers in the district, especially cassava and vegetables, go waste.
The Agric Director blamed such a situation on the lack of good roads from farming areas to the markets, processing and storage facilities.
In spite of this challenge, Mr Oduro was optimistic that any investments made in the agricultural sector would translate directly into developing the local economy of the district.
Mr Thomas Ampem-Nyarko, the Asuogyaman District Chief Executive, lauded the farmers for their hard work and assured them of the government's continuous support.
He said the District Assembly was working tirelessly to attract more investors into the agricultural sector to enable the farmers and fishermen in the district reap the best out of their toils.
Mr Ampem-Nyarko said the assembly would embark on a vigorous road rehabilitation in farming areas next year to ensure the smooth transportation of produce to the markets.
