Mahama Boys Go After Ade Coker

A group calling itself Concerned Youth for John Mahama, has issued a stern warning to National Democratic Congress (NDC) Greater Accra Regional Chairman, Kobina Ade Coker, to desist from interfering in the workings of the party or face its wrath.

Tension in the NDC remains very high following the suspension of three of the ruling party’s parliamentary candidates, including a sitting MP at the regional level following what NDC officials say are ‘misconduct and anti-party’ activities of those suspended.

Incumbent MP for La Dadekotopon, Nii Amasah Namoale, who was re-elected to contest on the ticket of the party in 2016, together with Samuel Nettey George aka Sam George, who defeated veteran MP, E.T. Mensah, in the Ningo-Prampram primary as well as Gloria Huzey, who defeated Afrifa Yamoah Ponkoh in Ejisu in the Ashanti Region, have all been suspended with immediate effect.

However, the national executives of the party have said they had not endorsed any action taken by the regional executives and had asked the suspended MPs to disregard the action by the regional executives.

In the ensuing confusion, members of Youth for John Mahama entered the fray and accused Mr. Ade Coker and those they described as ‘his cronies’ in the party of being behind the suspension of Nii Amasah Namoale and  Sam George.

“We have observed with grave concern some actions and inactions by some notable leaders of the party that are meant to paint a very bad picture of the party as we get ready for the 2016 elections,” Prince Mandela, Abigail Kwakye-Ewuson and George Arthur jointly signed a statement on behalf of the group.

“We all know the state of our biggest opponent, NPP, which is now characterised by confusion and rampant suspensions. It is with a great shock that we have learnt of such a big mistake developing in our party, NDC.

“We are not shocked that this unfortunate development is being directed by Mr. Ade Coker, Greater Accra Regional Chairman, who sees himself as the wisest person in the party.

“Ade Coker is obviously aggrieved because the delegates rejected his family and friends whom he presented for the primaries and is doing everything possible to distract our PCs.

“We want to point it to him that he cannot impose anyone on the party. We recall when Ade Coker came out to impose Amissah-Arthur on us when our grassroots called on Mahama to make Hon. Hannah Serwah Tetteh as his running mate,” the group averred.

Ablekuma North

In a related development, NDC branch executives in the Ablekuma North constituency have threatened to embark on a demonstration to vent their anger at their constituency executives.

The branch executives, led by Eddie Leeward Gariba Abubakar Adams, also threatened to lay down their tools if the leadership of the party, including President Mahama, did not take steps to address what they called “the deceitful ways in which our constituency executives supervised the parliamentary primary in the constituency.”

In a statement issued and signed by the branch executives, they accused the constituency executives of deliberately expunging 600 names from their voter register without any explanation.

“The NDC can be very attractive in Ablekuma North constituency, should the cartel pretending to be executives be removed from post,” they insisted.
