Job 600s Faulty Elevators Not Caused By Leaky Roofs Muntaka

The Majority Chief Whip in Parliament, Alhaji Mohammed Mubarak Muntaka, has rejected media reports that the faulty elevators at the Job 600 was caused by leakages in the roof.

He says the report cannot be accurate because he has been informed that some equipment in the elevators blew up hence the breakdown.

Alhaji Muntaka was quick to add that the elevators were grounded even before the facility was commissioned. Job 600 was commissioned by the President barely a month ago to serve as offices for the legislators.

The complex, which was renovated with an amount of $87 million, has thirteen floors with two hundred and fifty two offices. A Daily Graphic report of Monday December 7, said two of the elevators had broken down due to leakages from the roof.

The paper also reported that security scanners are also out of order, a situation that has resulted in security personnel at the entrances conducting manual body searches.

But speaking on the Citi Breakfast Show on Monday, the Majority Chief Whip said the Job 600 has about 12 elevators adding that only two have broken down and will not entirely affect mobility at the facility.

“The information that was given me is that, this happened months ago when the whole block had to be re-configured and a lot of work had to be done. And the old pipeline that were in the block, many of them were cut off and then new ones laid. But one of them which wasn’t fixed properly, so when they put in the pump to be able to get water to the last floor, the next morning when they came water had skipped into some portions of the building. It has nothing to do with the roof and they finished even before the commissioning.”

He further warned that “let’s not be creating a panic situation to make it look as if something extra ordinary is happening.” On the faulty scanners, Muntaka said he was not aware of it but assured that he would confirm and get it fixed.

The Asawase MP also absolved the Chinese contractors who worked on the facility of any wrongdoing.
