The 7th National Delegates Congress of the People’s National Convention (PNC) will be held in the Upper West Region from December 11 to 13, 2015, as a tribute to the memory of Alhaji Imoro Egala and President Hilla Limann.
In a telephone interview yesterday, the National Chairman of the party, Alhaji Ahmed Ramadan, said the party had completed all the processes that would lead to a successful two-day congress.
He disclosed that the Electoral and Nominations Committee of the party, acting on its mandate, conducted balloting for all the aspirants on December 3, 2015 at the party headquarters in Accra.
This follows the picking of nomination forms, filing and vetting of all aspirants to enable the party to go to congress as a united group.
Balloting
At the end of the largely successful balloting exercise, Dr Edward Nasigrie Mahama and Dr Abdulai Hassan Ayariga, in that order, will contest the party’s presidential candidate slot.
Bernard Anbataayela Mornah, Abubakari Sadiq Ebla Kwashie and David Apasera will also contest the national chairmanship, while Henry Haruna Asante, Hajia Hajara Musah and Dr Michael Wombeogo will slug it out for the vice chairmanship position.
For the General Secretary slot, Mr Mohammed Atik and Mr Emmanuel Wilson are competing. The national organiser position also has Abu Ramadan and Desmond Twumasi Ntow, while Haruna Mohammed, Kaba Abrahams, Benjamin Bediako, Akane Adams and Kurby Kandoro will contest the national treasurer position.
The rest are Janet Nabla and Elizabeth Amedekanya, who are slugging it out for the national women’s organiser, with Mark Ewusi Arkoh, Issahaque Awudulai, Mohammed Nasirudeen and Eugene T.K Bashiru going for the national youth organiser position.
Final processes
According to Alhaji Ramadan, the party is liaising with the Electoral Commission for the final processes to be completed for this most crucial National Delegates’ Congress to elect national officers and a presidential candidate to lead the party into the 2016 general election.
About 1,500 delegates are expected to participate in the congress which will be graced by high commissioners and diplomats accredited to Ghana and members of other political parties who will deliver solidarity messages.
In the view of Alhaji Ramadan, the PNC will be the party to beat in Election 2016.
He said that PNC was a party of ideas and programmes, adding that “a good number of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and New Patriotic Party (NPP) programmes were touted by the PNC.”
Regrettable, he said the two political parties were failing to implement the programmes rightly for the benefit of Ghanaians.
Issue Base Campaign
On Election 2016, he said the PNC was determined to prosecute an issue-based campaign devoid of insults and acrimony to win the hearts and minds of the Ghanaian electorate.
He, therefore, encouraged all delegates of the party to fully participate in the forthcoming congress and position the PNC as the alternative to the abysmal performance of the NDC and NPP.
