Anas Has "Mixed Feelings" About Sacked Lower Court Judges Counsel Reveals

Kissi Adjabeng, Counsel for ace investigative journalist, Anas Aremeyaw Anas, has said his client has mixed feelings over the removal of 20 lower court judges caught on camera in his recent judicial corruption exposé.

"It is a mixed feeling. On one hand, as an investigative journalist, he [Anas] is proud of his work that it has yielded results. So if he has had this result, great job...As I am sitting here, I am wondering, reflecting, as I have appeared before these judges. Which case that shouldn't have gone against you, have gone against you?" Lawyer Kissi said on an Accra-based Starr FM.

Twenty [20] out of the 21 lower court judges indicted in the recent judicial corruption scandal, exposed by Anas Aremeyaw Anas, have been removed from office after a five member committee investigation chaired by Justice Sophia Adinyira.

The judges, who were part of the 32 implicated in the exposé, were dismissed for violating provisions of the 1992 Constitution, according to the Committee set up to investigate Anas' claims.

Some of them have been sacked with benefits while others got dismissed without their benefits.

The remaining two names of the judges have been withheld because according to the Judicial Council, their lawyers have not been reached yet to be informed about the decision.

The judges have been suspended prior to the committee’s hearing – but Anas’ lawyer noted that – “It is a sad day for the judiciary in Ghana.

He further said in the case of the Supreme Court Judges – “Anas is looking forward to having them found culpable. He stands by everything he does. He is hoping that the same replicates in the case of the superior court judges."
