NDC Deputy Communications Director Fred Agbenyo has implored Ghanaians to pay up the new tariffs increment in exchange for better services from the utility providers.

Speaking on Peace FM's Kokrokoo, Fred Agbenyo noted that refusing to pay the utility tariffs will have dire consequences on the economy.

According to him, Ghanaians have been complaining bitterly about the challenges confronting the energy and water sectors, banking their hopes on the government to resolve the crises.

It is therefore in respect of resolving these sectors that the Public Utility Regulatory Commission (PURC) announced new adjustments in utility tariffs, Fred Agbenyo opined.

PURC on Monday announced that electricity and water tariffs will be increased by 59.2 percent and 67.2 percent respectively.

The new adjustments will take effect from December 14, 2015.

Fred Agbenyo insisted that though it poses difficulty to consumers, they however have no choice but to pay if they indeed want a resolution of the problems.

“It’s a very difficult situation. Ghanaians must bear with the situation. We must all make this profitable effort to help us. What we don’t want to hear is that maybe three or four (months) after today; they will come back around the same table and come and complain, and lament that still the situation is the same meanwhile we’re paying the specified amount. That is what all of us must pray and work against,” he added.
