Assembly Votes GH100,000 Towards Feeder Roads Repair

The Asante-Akim Central Municipal Assembly has voted GH¢100,000 towards the rehabilitation of feeder roads in the area in the coming year, Alhaji Braimah Boyong, the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), has announced.

This, he said, was meant to help make it easier to evacuate food crops from the farm gates to the marketing centres to prevent these from getting rotten.

He was speaking at a ceremony held at Dwease to celebrate farmers in the municipality for their hard work and contribution to the economy.

In all, 25 farmers were honoured with prizes.

Sixty-one (61) year-old Alhassan Moro emerged the overall best farmer and took home a tricycle, radio set, spraying machine, wellington boots, agro-chemicals and cutlasses.
Alhaji Boyong assured them of the government’s support to increase crop yield and returns.

It was on the basis of this that 300,000 hybrid cocoa seedlings together with 16,120 litres of fertilizer were freely distributed to farmers in the municipality, this year.

Mr. Kwame Anyimad Antwi, the Member of Parliament (MP) for the area, saluted the farmers for their invaluable contribution to the nation’s economy and urged the government to give priority attention to the agricultural sector.

Budgetary allocation to the sector, he said, needed to be subtantially increased, he added.
