Tourism Minister Graces 6th Delegates Conference Of Institute Of Hospitality

The 6th Delegates Conference of the Institute of Hospitality, Ghana ended in Accra with participants urged to impact society using hygiene, customer care and creativity as a tool to develop the hospitality industry.

The event sponsored by Wilmar Africa, producers of Frytol cooking oil saw over 500 delegates from 10 regions gather at the Teachers Hall on the theme: ‘Developing the Hospitality Industry through Hygiene, Customer Service and Creativity’.

Issues discussed at the conference included the use of best practices in the hospitality industry and key challenges facing the hospitality, leisure and tourism industry in Ghana.  

Speaking at the conference, guest speaker Mrs Elizabeth Ofosu-Adjare, Minister of Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts, said the hospitality industry is one of Ghana’s most promising sectors.

She said, the industry creates opportunities for millions of families and communities in the country and also provides revenue for national development.

She added that the hospitality industry must pay attention to hygiene and customer service but must be creative and have innovative ideas to stay relevant in the industry.

The Wilmar Women’s Forum featured prominently on the conference’s itinerary as industry players from Polytechnics, contract and traditional caterers were educated on the best practices in using vegetable cooking oil and why Frytol is a star performer everywhere you turn today.

The 3-day conference also afforded participants the opportunity to tour interesting hospitality sites and tourism hubs in the capital.

Some dignitaries present at the conference were Mrs Hajia Asana Seidu, President, Institute of Hospitality Ghana, Nana David Anim, President of GHATOF, Matilda Asamoah, Vice President of the Institute of Hospitality, Bella Ahu, Past Chair of the Institute, Mrs Takyi Micah, Dr. Patricia Owusu Darko, Dr Esther Abodge and all 10 regional coordinators of the institute.

The MC for the event was the ever affable TV producer, director and story teller Lawrence Nartey Kornor of the Rundown fame.
