Women In The Mines Urged To Be Mindful Of Their Health

Dr. Mrs Beatrice Wiafe Addai, President of Breast Care International, has asked women working in the mining sector to pay particular attention to their health and report early to the hospital for treatment all diseases.

She asked them to be more alert to non-communicable diseases such as breast and cervical cancers, which were now affecting many women.

She was speaking at the inauguration of the Chirano Gold Mines Limited (CGML) Women's Club, at Chirano in the Bibiani-Anhwiaso-Bekwai District.

It brings together women employees of the mining company, contractors and suppliers to build their capacities, improve their working conditions and contribution to the growth of the mine.

Dr. Wiafe Addai, noted that early detection of breast and cervical cancers was the surest way to prevent these from becoming fatal.

She counseled regular self-examination of the breast and said any abnormality detected must be promptly reported for medical attention.

She again reminded them to save some of the money they earned to take good care of their children.

Dr. Joyce Arye, Chief Executive Officer of Salt and Light Ministries, in an address read for her, noted that, women served as the wheel, which moved society and asked them not to underestimate their critical role in the success of the company.

She encouraged them to give it their all to help increase productivity.

Mr. Thomas Nyarko Dankwa, Human Resources and Community Relations Manager of the Mine, said the company was gender sensitive and would continue to provide equal opportunities for women.

It was for this reason that it had significant number of women in management, geological, underground and the engineering departments.

Mis Hilda Arhin, President of the Club, said it would work to empower the women to contribute their quota to the progress of the company.
