Prez Mahama Was Forced To Retain Amissah-Arthur As Running Mate - Volta Youth Alleges

Pro-NDC group called Volta Youth For Development is asserting that President John Dramani Mahama’s choice of his Vice President, Paa Kwesi Amissah-Arthur to continue with him in the 2016 election was masterminded by some party executives.

According to the group, the choice of Amissah-Arthur didn’t surprise them as President Mahama had no option than to retain his Vice President after the Volta Youth had petitioned him to choose Rt. Hon. Edward Doe Adjaho as his Running Mate.

Speaking on Okay Fm’s 'Ade Akye Abia' Morning Show, Mr. Dedziasa Elorm, a member of the Volta Youth For Development expressed disappointed in the choice of Amissah-Arthur as NDC Running Mate for 2016 election.

He maintained that Rt. Hon. Doe Adjaho is still more competent than the Vice President; stressing that he is the best person to partner President John Dramani Mahama for the 2016 elections.

H alleged that there were some calls from the inside of the NDC to pressurize the President to retain Amissah-Arthur.

“…but calls from the inside-out of the NDC definitely shows that, President Mahama’s hands were tied-fisted behind him, he had no option than to maintain Amissah-Arthur which we see very unfortunate and disappointing but we were not surprised,” he asserted.

The Volta Youth underscored that the party’s choice in Amissah-Arthur is meant to gain votes advantage in the Central Region and not to get someone who will help President Mahama to better the lives of Ghanaians; fearing that when they change Amissah-Arthur, the party might be affected in the 2016 elections.

“We should think of the generality of Ghanaians and it shouldn’t be only party interest. Who you bring on board so that the entire country will be behind the NDC matters most; it is disappointing for us to consider our interest for the entire Ghanaians to suffer because of Amissah-Arthur,” he chided.
