Korle-Bu Staff Demand CEOs Resignation

Members of the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital Senior Staff Association have advised the Hospital’s CEO , Dr. Gilbert Buckle to resign from his position with immediate effect.

About ninety percent of the members voted today at a general meeting to pass a vote of no confidence in Dr. Buckle.
They have accused him of mismanaging the hospital’s internally generated funds and paying what they termed needless judgement debts while neglecting the welfare of staff of the hospital.

The CEO assumed office barely a year ago after similar accusations led to the dismissal of his predecessor, Rev. Okpoti Botwe.

Speaking to Citi News’ Duke Mensah Opoku after the meeting, President of the Senior Staff Association (KOSSA), Charles Ofei-Palm outlined issues that have resulted in their call for Dr. Buckle’s resignation.

“What we use to have before he came is now worse. There are shortages of consumables in the system. Pharmacies and other departments are not functioning properly. It is also shocking to note that when he came, services by 300 percent so you ask yourself where is the money going to? We know the Board has approved an outrageous amount of money for him as condition of service,” Ofei Palm said.

Their accusation comes months after a GHC 900,000 fraud, leading to the dismissal of about four employees, was uncovered at the hospital’s pharmacy.

This is the second time staff of the Hospital have demanded the resignation of their CEO.

In their initial demand, the association exposed what they termed as huge financial malfeasance by Rev. Albert Okpoti Botchwey and the hospital’s board.
