PURC Breached Trust - Kotei

Mr Solomon Kotei, Member of Organized Labour, has said the PURC had broken faith with labour, because the tariff regulator deliberately did not come back to finalize with labour at what levels electricity and water tariffs should be fixed.

During consultations, he said, both parties were considering some variables, including what to be charged but there were no consensus reached, even though the PURC was cautioned not to go beyond 50 per cent.

Mr Kotei who is the General Secretary of the Industrial and Commercial Workers Union (ICU), said Labour further cautioned that beyond the 50 percent, financial constraints of investors would be deepened, thus leading to retrenchments.

The General Secretary who made these remarks when he spoke to the Ghana News Agency in an interview in Accra on Tuesday, said PURC was told not to make any announcement until 2016 when discussions were concluded.

He pointed out that if that happened, it would increase unemployment numbers, thus creating social havoc.
