Recruitment Scam Hits National Security

The Accra Regional Police have arrested a group of persons for allegedly recruiting hundreds of people as National Security operatives.

According to the Regional Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Afia Tengey, the suspects, numbering 13, were arrested on Saturday, December 5, 2015 at about 7:30am at Taifa-Burkina.

She told Citi FM the police received information that a group of persons were recruiting and training people for National Security at Taifa-Burkina.
She said based on that intelligence, the police moved to the St Dominic Catholic Church park at Taifa-Burkina where they met about 325 people undergoing physical training for the supposed National Security job.

According to ASP Tengey, preliminary investigations conducted by the police indicated that two of the suspects, Godson Kwame Dohu, a former National Security Operative and another, a self-styled National Security Coordinator of an unregistered company called African Fidel Suricom were apprehended on the scene.

She revealed that the suspects took between GH¢50 cedis and GH¢150 each from some of the victims under the pretext of helping them to be enlisted into the security services.

ASP Tengey further noted that the suspects and the 11 others have been put before court for defrauding under false pretext while investigations continue.
